Farali Dhokla Recipe – Vrat Ka Khana
Farali Dhokla is a gluten-free steamed cake savory made with tapioca pearls and millet(Sama Rice). These dhoklas are very healthy, soft, and light; they melt in your mouth.
This is one of the easiest and quick recipes to make during Navaratri, Janmashtami, or any fasting day. This is also a perfect option for the Sharvan holy month, where people fast the whole month.
We are always looking for new vrat recipes every time. This Farali Dhokla or Upvas Dhokla recipe is perfect for tea or coffee during fasting. These Farali Dhokla are so delicious and inviting that you can make them during non-fasting days.
In English, Sama is known as Barnyard Millet. It is low in calories, a good source of iron, and rich in fiber. In various regional languages, it is understood differently – Samak rice, Mordhan, Moraiyo, Bhagar, Vrat ka Chawal. Sabudana is known as tapioca pearls or sago in English.
During vrat or fasting, only certain foods are permitted. Sama rice or pulao is one of the most common recipes generally eaten with aloo ki sabzi and Sabudana vada in snacks.
This is my Navratri special fasting recipe- Farali Dhokla, a simple and quick snack. I usually make them at home during fasting. Now, let me share how to make this Farali Dhokla at home.
Combine grounded millet and sago seeds with curd, chili, ginger paste, coriander leaves, and rock salt.
Add enough water and prepare a lump-free pouring (medium) consistency batter. Give a small rest.
Steam and let the Farali Dhokla cool for 5 minutes, then temper with cumin, green chilies, sesame, and some curry leaves.
Some simple tips, firstly both the millet and sago seeds should be ground finely. If the mixture is grainy, the dhoklas will not turn soft and airy.
The batter should be a medium (neither thick nor liquid), pouring consistency. Always move the spoon in one direction while mixing the batter.
To make this a lip-smacking delicacy, I have sprinkled some black pepper powder while steaming the dhoklas. Red chili powder too can be used if you consume it during fasting.
Eno is added to make them soft and light, followed by lemon juice to activate the mixture.
Pre-heat the steamer for 5 minutes. Immediately transfer the batter to the steamer after adding Eno.
Follow the step-by-step instructions below, the above tips, and a detailed video to make a perfect Farali Dhokla recipe and enjoy them at tea and for lunch or dinner.
You can make this Farali Dhokla and store them in the fridge; it stays fresh for three days.
