Easy Gajar Ka Halwa Recipe in 30 Minutes
Gajar ka Halwa also known as Carrot Halwa, Gajrela, or Gajar ka pak, is a super tasty Indian dessert recipe made from freshly grated carrots, milk, sugar, ghee, and some nuts.
The word halwa comes from the Arabic word which means “Sweet” Since this is made from carrots (Gajar in Hindi), it is called Gajar ka halwa (carrot pudding or halwa of carrot) or गाजर का हलवा.
Carrot halwa is a mouth-watering dessert reserved for festivals and celebrations. You can also call it a winter dessert. I highly recommend using fresh and tender red carrots that are less fibrous while making this yummy dessert.
It is a simple and easy sweet dish to make that even people who are beginners to cooking can prepare this Gajar ka Halwa recipe in the first attempt.
This recipe is the traditional method where the grated carrot is roasted in the ghee (to dry out the moisture), followed by a good quality and quantity of milk, and later followed by sugar, ghee, cardamom, and finally garnished with cashew nuts. To enhance the flavor of this carrot halwa, little saffron and a pinch of nutmeg are added to this recipe.
This method is slightly time-consuming, but the taste of this halwa is delectable. Khoya, milk powder, and condensed milk also can be used to prepare this yummy dessert which is a shortcut method, but the traditional method is the most popular method that is followed even today.
Suggest using a thick bottom pan or Kadai to make this halwa to prevent the milk from burning down. A pressure cooker is also a good option, but still, there is a risk of overcooking it.
The good part of this dessert is that it has a long shelf life. It is the best option for parties or guests at home. Prepare this Gajar halwa in advance; the shelf life is 6 to 7 days in the fridge. If you have a sweet tooth, this is a perfect dessert when you will always have something sweet to eat after dinner at home.
This delicious gajar halwa is always served hot, and the most excellent way to present this yummy gajar ka halwa is with vanilla ice cream.
